How to Celebrate the Holidays in Philly This Year

Big family dinners, holiday festivals, beloved local traditions like the Macy’s light show—all of these are going to look quite different this year. But even if your focus is on safety, that doesn’t mean you can’t still find ways to enjoy the sights, sounds and spirit of the holiday season without traveling far from your The Hamilton apartment.

One such way to do that is at the Winter at Franklin Square series. Through New Year’s Eve, catch a dazzling light show and a host of family-friendly holiday activities in this historic park, one mile from your The Hamilton apartment. The festival returns with a focus on safety: All activities are outdoor in the 7-acre park, which is a big plus for those looking to have some holiday fun safely. The park has also been outfitted with expanded seating, sanitization stations, social distancing guidelines and capacity limits for added security.

The event features a record 100,000 lights strung throughout the park, which dance in unison to holiday tunes provided live by the Philly POPS. Holiday events are held both day and night throughout the week: socially distanced photos with Santa, Hanukkah activities hosted by the Old City Jewish Arts Center, Kwanzaa celebrations and games to help keep visitors safely enjoying the park. The brilliantly decorated carousel will be open for rides, and if you come during the day, you can enjoy a game of mini-golf. Because of new COVID restrictions, the food and dining options usually available will be closed this year, so grab your hot chocolate before you leave your The Hamilton apartment, so you can stay warm while taking in one of the city’s favorite holiday traditions.

So don your ugly Christmas sweater and head out into Manayunk to enjoy this unique but memorable holiday season!
