3 Local Spots to Celebrate Earth Day

Philadelphia may be one of the biggest cities in the nation—but that doesn’t mean we’re lacking in green space! The area around your The Hamilton apartment is filled with lush parks and gardens, and what better time to enjoy them than on Earth Day? The international celebration of nature and sustainability takes place April 22, and while there are plenty of local events to formally mark the occasion, you can also honor the meaning of the day by simply soaking up some spring sunshine in one of our local parks. Bring a book, a picnic (recyclable materials, of course!) and a blanket and spend some time appreciating green spaces like these:

The Spring Gardens: This community garden, a half-mile from your The Hamilton apartment, allows local growers the space to practice their craft, and serves as a community gathering space for cooking classes, workshops and hands-on gardening lessons.

Mathias Baldwin Park: Located four blocks from your The Hamilton apartment, the park includes two acres of expertly landscaped grounds, designed by a world renowned horticultural artist. Mathias Baldwin Park features rock sculptures, pathways, benches and lots and lots of trees, a great spot for kicking back and taking in some fresh air. It’s also a frequent host of local community events, so if you’re looking for a spot to help you get more actively involved in the neighborhood, this is it.

Love Park: This is perhaps Philly’s most famous park, and it’s just a half-mile from your The Hamilton apartment. The park is home to the iconic LOVE statue and spectacular views of Philadelphia City Hall and the Benjamin Franklin Parkway. It recently reopened after major renovations, so now there are even more plants, trees and lush gardens—making a picture-perfect park even more perfect.
